Stambaugh Youth Concert Band announces auditions for the 2024/2025 Season

YOUNGSTOWN, OH (August 12, 2024): The Stambaugh Youth Concert Band (SYCB) will hold auditions on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 and Tuesday, September 10, 2024 from 5:00 – 9:00 pm both days. Auditions will be held in the Concert Hall and the Anne K. Christman Hall at Stambaugh Auditorium for wind, brass and percussion students.

The Stambaugh Youth Concert Band was founded in the fall of 2001 by Thomas A. Groth, former Boardman High School Director of Bands, and Barbara Armstrong, then General Manager of Stambaugh Auditorium. Over the years, participation in the Stambaugh Youth Concert Band has paved the way for many of the students to continue their music education at the collegiate level and to pursue careers in musical performance or music education. The SYCB is currently under the direction of Mr. Tyler Husosky, Dr. Kate Ferguson, and Mr. Nathan Sensabaugh and features top high school musicians from Northeast Ohio and Western Pennsylvania. In addition to the Concert Band the SYCB also includes a Jazz Ensemble which is in its third year.

The band rehearses Tuesday evenings from September 17, 2024 to April 8, 2025. Performances will include two concerts in the Stambaugh Auditorium Concert Hall one on November 12, 2024 and the second on April 15, 2025. The season will also include an additional performance on January 26, 2025 at an invitational event. Participation in the band is possible through the auditions that will take place on September 4th and 10th. The band features a senior soloist at the band’s spring concert; this solo position is selected through an additional audition process later in the season.
