Opera Western Reserve Announces Spring 2025 Opera Presentation

YOUNGSTOWN, OH (March 27, 2025) – Opera Western Reserve is proud to announce a special dinner event featuring a live performance of Miss Havisham’s Wedding Night on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at Stambaugh Auditorium in the Anne K. Christman Memorial Hall. Under the direction of Scott Skiba, this one-of-a-kind monodrama is composed by Dominick Argento with a libretto by John Olon-Scrymgeour.

The performance will showcase OWR Emerging Artist and Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory senior, Kate Tiemens, in a powerful portrayal of Aurelia Havisham, a character drawn from Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations. Premiered by the Minnesota Opera in 1981, Miss Havisham’s Wedding Night explores the haunting emotions of Miss Havisham on the night of her long-awaited wedding. This immersive experience brings the compelling drama of Dickens’ world to life, adding a new dimension to a beloved literary classic.

In addition to the stirring performance, the evening will feature a buffet diner and a cash bar. Guests can enjoy a memorable evening that will unfold as follows:

  • 5:30 pm – Guest arrival and cocktail hour
