Dr. Kate Ferguson
Dr. Kate Ferguson is the Director of Athletic Bands at Youngstown State University. Currently in her twenty-fourth year as an educator, Ferguson previously taught in the Akron Public, Crestview Local, and Cuyahoga Falls City School Districts. Additionally, she has served as a faculty member at The College of Wooster, Southeast Missouri State University, and Kent State University. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Ferguson is the Director of the Phantom Regiment Educational Academy. She holds a Bachelors of Music Education degree form Kent State University, a Masters in Music Education degree from the University of Akron, and a Ph.D. in Music Education from Kent State University.
Under her direction, Ms. Ferguson’s ensembles consistently earn superior ratings at both districts and state Ohio Music Education Association Events. Her ensembles have been invited to perform at the international Music Festival at the Kennedy Center For The Performing Arts, the Northeast Ohio Band Invitational at Severance Hall, the Ohio Music Education Association Professional Conference, the Magnificent Mile Light Parade, and the Fort-McDowell Fiesta Bowl Parade. Additionally, her performing groups are highly involved in community performances and events within the Northeast Ohio area. Ms. Ferguson has also presented sessions on Sight Reading at the 2022 OMEA Professional Development Conference, 2021 Kentucky Music Education Association Conference, and the 2018 Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic. Ms. Ferguson has also presented her research on several occasions at the Research Roundtable, and Poster Session associated with the OMEA Professional Development Conference. She has spoken about sight reading and concert preparation during instruction improvement days at the Akron Public School. Ms. Ferguson is published in Contributions to Music Education, and OMEA TRIAD.
Ms. Ferguson is an active member of the Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA). Her service to OMEA has included adjudication and hosting High School Large Group, and Solo & Ensemble Events. In addition, she has been a frequent member of the Professional Conference Planning Committee, has served as the All State Band Chair, and Past-President of District VI.
Mr. Tyler Husosky
Tyler Husosky is beginning his fourteenth year of teaching; his fourth in the Lakeview School District where he serves as the middle school band director, and assistant marching band director. Mr. Husosky also serves as the Co-Director and Percussion Advisor of the Henry H. Stambaugh Youth Concert Band. In 2023, Mr. Husosky marched in the Band Director’s Marching Band as part of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. In the spring of 2022, Mr. Husosky was also privileged to serve as the guest conductor of the Pennsylvania Music Education Association District 5 Junior High Honors Band.
Mr. Husosky is also an active member of the Ohio Music Education Association, serving as an adjudicator for Junior High and High School Solo and Ensemble, Junior High and High School District Large Group and Marching Band. He is also the Co-Chair of the District 5 Fall Conference, and CoChair of the District 5 Junior High Large Group Adjudicated Event. Mr. Husosky was also published in the Fall 2021 edition of the OMEA TRIAD. Mr. Husosky served as the OMEA District 5 President from 2019-2020.
Prior to Lakeview Schools, Mr. Husosky served as the Director for Bands in the Champion Local School district from 2013-2018. the bands and ensembles were featured regularly at Youngstown State University, Hiram College, the Ohio State University Buckeye Invitational, and the Ohio State University Percussion Ensemble Festival, and Walt Disney World. Prior to serving as Director of Bands at Champion Local Schools, Mr. Husosky taught K-6 general music in the Jackson-Milton School District from 2008-2013.
As an advocate for new music for junior high and high school bands, Mr. Husosky has been a part of several commission projects with Randall Standridge, Mike Kamuf, Gene Milford, and Travis Weller. Mr. Husosky is a member of the Ohio Music Educational Association, American School Band Director Association, and the National Band Association. As an active performer, he performs with the W.D. Orchestra, and is a freelance percussionist in the Youngstown/Warren area.
Mr. Husosky earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Youngstown State University in 2008, and a Master’s Degree in Music Education from Kent State University in 2018.
Mr. Nathan Sensabaugh
Continuing this fifteenth year, the Lakeview Band is under the direction of Mr. Nathan Sensabaugh. He attended Youngstown State University where he majored in Music Education. While attending YSU. He studied saxophone under Dr. James Umble and participated in the YSU Marching Pride, the Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, and Saxophone Quartets. Mr. Sensabaugh’s Saxophone Quartet was a finalist in the prestigious Fischoff Chamber Music Competition in 2001. During his last year of his Bachelor’s degree, he was a student teacher at Lakeview High School.
Mr. Sensabaugh is an active OMEA member and adjudicator for High School Solo and Ensemble and High School Large Group Adjudicated Events. He is currently chair of the newly formed OMEA District 5 High School Honors Jazz Ensembles. Mr. Sensabaugh has also served as chair of the District 5 High School Honors Band. He is currently Co-Director of the Henry H. Stambaugh Youth Concert Band. As an active performer, Mr. Sensabaugh is a member of the Top Notes Big Band and frequently plays with the W.D. Packard Concert Band. This is mr. Sensabaugh’s twenty-first year of teaching. He previously taught in the Manchester Local School District in Akron, Ohio for 6 years. he graduated in 2014 with a Master’s Degree in Conducting from Youngstown State University, and also earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Youngstown State University in 2001.
Mr. Sensabaugh and his wife, Heather, reside in Cortland with their daughter, Aurora, and son, Gage.
